Wairarapa Wool Weekend

Wairarapa Wool Weekend

Hospice Wairarapa is proud to be the charity partner for the inaugural Wairarapa Wool Weekend.

Wairarapa Wool Weekend is a fibrecraft event designed to promote the Wairarapa region and the New Zealand wool industry while acknowledging te ao Māori and developing a whanaungatanga, or community, of crafters.

Wairarapa Wool Weekend will be held once every two years and each muster (gathering) will be based in a different Wairarapa town to allow participants to discover and explore the greater Wairarapa region. To add an international flavour we will also be focusing on countries (or parts of the world) where people have emigrated to New Zealand from and celebrating the craft and culture they have brought with them. In support of this there will be a guest speaker and/or workshop tutor who will share their love and knowledge of the unique craft history and identity of the area.

Activities will include fibrecraft workshops, public talks, a traders hall, tree planting ceremony, lights up crafting, craft café evenings, specialist tasting sessions and a gala evening event. Entry to the event is by way of a paid registration fee. Fibrecraft workshops will incur an additional fee.

Registrations open now.

Fabric-A-Brac Greytown

Attention Fabric Lovers!

Fabric-a-brac Greytown is back in January 2025!

Our Wairarapa event is held in Greytown, on Wellington Anniversary, in conjunction with the annual Sidewalk Sale in Greytown so it’s a great excuse to have a weekend away! It’s held in the Greytown Town Hall on Main St.

Fabric-a-brac is a fun fabric and sewing supplies market where you can shop for vintage and modern sewing and upholstery fabric, patterns, haberdashery and more. It brings the sewing community together to share stashes, stories and delight in our mutual love of textiles.

Fabric-a-brac is volunteer-run, and is a fundraiser for hospice – in Greytown this is Hospice Wairarapa. All profits from this event are donated to their work.

This event is held annually on Wellington Anniversary weekend.

Selling fabric

If you have a stash you’d like to sell, you can come and take a stall. You pay a stallholder fee (which goes to Hospice) but anything you make on the day is yours to keep.

If you have fabric, haberdashery or patterns you’d like to move on, but don’t want to have a table, you can donate (locations TBC). This will all go onto the hospice table on the day, and all profits will go to their wonderful work.

Buying fabric

BRING CASH as many of the stallholders will be selling by cash only.

GOLD COIN ON ENTRY IS APPRECIATED.

If you are looking for some new inspiration for future projects, great bargains, funky old fabric and quirky bits – Fabric-a-brac is for you. Come along and pick up some fantastic sewing-related bargains.
